Crown Jewel FGMarch was commissioned to renovate and reconfigure the Rebecca Crown Library at Dominican University. One of the goals established by the client was "to make sure that we have a visionary project for a small Liberal Arts and Sciences College with a focus on Library and Information Science." |
The existing four story structure has been updated with many contemporary design concepts and technologies. On the main level, a brand new modern art gallery greets library users as they pass through the facility. The main stair has been redesigned in a modern statment of glass and metal that curves and winds sculpturally. On the same level, a reading room space has been re-examined with lighting design and has been transformed into a softly lit, cozy study space. |

On the upper level, updated classroom facilities radiate from the central skylit stair. Each classroom is wired for current and future technologies, and each seat and table has it's own connection to the online network. Projection screens for digital media are readily available in each teaching space. |
One of the key components of the reconfiguration is the development of the main building entrance at the lower level. On this level, a new information arcade and adjacent garden will attract students to visit and stay at the new facility. Wired study booths with creative fabrics, low-voltage light fixtures, a cafe and a view to the patio outside should prove to be a popular study and socializing environment.
